About the Artist

Born and raised in the D.C./Maryland area, Donna began her artistic adventures at the age of 13 with lessons in drawing and copying the masters. She trained with local artists throughout her childhood and went on to study at the New York Academy of Fine Art with realist master Ted Jacobs and well-known Art Therapist, Erica Steinberger.

As her colorful, often whimsical style developed, so too did her love of experimenting with different mediums. She gravitated from oils to watercolors, and, under the tutelage of teachers Firouzeh Sadeghi and David Daniels, expanded her style from tight realism to a new, bold explosion of color with abstract elements thrown in.

More recently, Donna has painstakingly taught herself to use heavy body acrylic paints to achieve new depth of contrast and a greater intensity of color in her work. She has especially enjoyed using this medium to expand her collection of abstract works and bring new life to her realist paintings.

Donna considers painting to be a spiritual and creative release from the often intense and emotionally draining field of nursing, which she still does part-time. She is a member of several local art societies, including the Montgomery Artist’s Society and Montgomery Art Association. She has won several awards in competitive shows, and her work has been juried in many shows, such as Strathmore, Glen Echo, and Penn Street Gallery.

Donna sells her paintings both locally and nationally. To get in touch with Donna, please click here.
